An Attorney Can Help After A Car Accident Injury

Hi, my name is Kirsten Krueger and two years ago, I was in a car accident. I was stopped at a stop sign when the driver behind me slammed into my car. Due to my injuries, I had to spend a few days in the hospital and I was unable to work for two months. My medical care was expensive and without being able to work, I couldn't pay my bills. The car accident was stressful enough and then I had to worry about how I would pay my bills. After speaking with a car accident lawyer, it wasn't long before I was compensated for my medical bills and lost wages from work. I'm writing this blog to help others who have been a car accident and haven't received any compensation. As you read my posts, you'll learn how an attorney can help you if you're in a vehicle accident.

Steps To Take If You Are Arrested For DUI While Taking Prescription Medication

by Sara Williamson

It's possible you or a loved one might be arrested for a DUI while you are taking legal prescription medications due to a medical condition. Some medications can cause side effects such as slight dizziness or distraction of attention for short periods of time.

While you are mostly able to drive, there could be a slight chance that a side effect could occur while driving, causing the police to pull you over and arrest you for DUI.

Here are some steps to take if you were arrested for DUI while taking prescription medication to help you win your case.

Take The Blood Test Offered

When you are pulled over in many states, you do have the right to refuse the roadside breathalyzer test but it's not always a good idea to do so. Instead, take the test and the cognitive test as well.

If you are arrested because you fail the roadside test, it's a good idea to take the blood test at the police station or hospital to help prove you are taking a legal prescription medication. This will show up in a blood or chemical test.

Request A Lawyer Or Call One You Know

It's a good idea to ask for a DUI lawyer when you get to the police station and have them present for testing if you feel more comfortable. They can also advise you on what to say to the police at this point.

Explain to your lawyer what prescription medication you are taking and what the condition you have is. You can explain to them that you are cleared to drive by a doctor and fill them in on some of the possible side effects of the medication.

It's best to be as honest as possible with your DUI lawyer as they can help you get the right medical records and doctor's notes that can help you prove your case and have any charges against you dropped.

Your lawyer can help negotiate your release on bail and potentially a lower bail amount as well. They can help prove to a judge that you can be released on your own recognizance due to you having legal prescription drugs in your system due to a medical condition and if you haven't had any prior arrests or convictions.

Prove Your Medical Condition In Court

A DUI lawyer can help you prove that you have a medical condition during your trial. They can help you obtain doctor's records to use as proof. They can also show evidence of the side effects of the medications you are taking and that they are typically safe to take while driving.

This can help to get your charges dismissed or lessened.
